Cardio-Phlebotomy Technician

Through Emerge Education’s 16-week Cardio-Phlebotomy Technician certificate program, you’ll be qualified to sit for the Certified EKG Technician and Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification exams through the National Healthcareer Association.

Electrocardiograph (EKG or ECG) technicians and phlebotomists work directly with patients in a variety of medical settings. An EKG Technician is responsible for operating an electrocardiograph, a machine that monitors the electrical activity in the heart. Phlebotomists collect blood and non-blood specimens for testing so they can be analyzed in a clinical laboratory.   

In order to participate in this program, you’ll need a High School Diploma or GED and a web browser with an internet connection. This training requires students to complete a minimum of 10 EKGs on a live person, 30 venipunctures, and ten capillary sticks on live individuals to sit for their certification exams.

This program does not meet state licensing or regulatory requirements for Phlebotomy Technicians in the following states: CA, and WA. This program is not recognized by the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission (GNPEC), and therefore residents of the State of Georgia are not eligible for enrollment into this program.

Through this training, you’ll be able to:

• demonstrate an understanding of the soft skill expectations of an allied healthcare professional
• understand the responsibilities of patient care and safety related to the preparation and collection of specimens
• understand the responsibilities related to the performance of electrocardiograms, application of Holter monitors and assistance with stress testing
• appreciate the importance of patient care and monitoring related to arrhythmias
• appreciate the role of HIPAA, OSHA, COLA, and CLIA-waived testing
